Why N.H.R.A.D.I.O. Inc ?

The mission of NHRADIO is to identify and make available selected equipment and resources for use by Amateur Radio Operators responding to emergencies. These resources may also have application for non-profit public service events that demonstrate Amateur Radio communications capabilities to the public.

NHRADIO, a New Hampshire non-profit corporation, is affiliated with the New Hampshire Amateur Radio Emergency Service (NH-ARES) sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation with more than 150,000 members nationwide. The primary role of NHRADIO is to support NH-ARES in completing its mission.

Amateur Radio Operators nationwide have long provided communication support when normal lines of communication become strained or unavailable due to natural or man-made disasters.

NH-ARES works with selected New Hampshire based emergency groups, such as the American Red Cross; the State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety; State of New Hampshire Homeland Security andEmergency Management; and with local Emergency Management Directors (EMD). NH-ARES provides communication resources for public service events such as walks and bike-a-thons for non-profit groups such as The March of Dimes, The American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association to name a few.

The NH-ARES organization is open to those Amateur Radio Operators who can bring to the table specialized talents, knowledge, or resources to further the ideals of the organization regardless of race, creed or color.

HISTORY

NHRADIO was originally incorporated in 1993, as New England Convention Associates Inc. (NECA). Its purpose was to familiarize Amateur Radio enthusiasts and the public with the educational, training, and recreational benefits of Amateur Radio through regional conventions. NECA sponsored both the 1993 and 1995 ARRL New England Division Conventions in Manchester NH.

Amateur Radio Operators nationwide work to provide communication resources when normal commercial lines of communication become strained or unavailable due to natural or man-made disasters. New Hampshire Amateur Radio Operators have been called into service during hurricanes and ice storms, and for practice drills that are held at various times throughout the year. In fact, New Hampshire Amateur Radio Operators responded to New York City on September 11, 2001.

After 9-11, the organization merged with DFQ Systems (a local repeater group) and changed its name to NHRADIO Inc. focusing on identifying and making available needed resources to Amateur Radio responders and select served agencies in times of emergency. Additionally, these resources may also have application in support of non-profit public service events demonstrating Amateur Radio communications capabilities to the public.

NHRADIO Inc has funded individual tuition of New Hampshire Radio Amateurs for the EC-001, EC-002 and EC-003 Emergency Communication Course trainings offered by the American Radio Relay League. NHRADIO Inc has also loaned out donated equipment as it becomes available.
